Hi.

Welcome to our life as we homeschool our kids with a twist!

Women's Fashion and Style Over 40 | What I Wore Last Week

Women's Fashion and Style Over 40 | What I Wore Last Week

I use the term 'fashion' lightly when I titled this post "Over 40 Fashion" haha!  So here's the deal.  I'm a stay-at-home mom who homeschools, to boot.  I could pretty much wear workout clothes all day every day and people would be like, "Yep. That makes sense."  So I'm making an effort to inspire other women that fashion and style over 40 is fun and easy!

But I have cute clothes in my closet and when I make an effort to look pulled together, I'm a much better version of myself.  I'm a better mom, wife, customer, blogger, etc!

So this is the first in a series of posts where I take blurry iPhone photos of myself in my bedroom to share what I wore this week.  I've only been doing this since Tuesday and I am LOVING IT!.  It means that our bed gets made every morning (because who wants to look at my messy bed?) and that I've gotten myself together enough for a photo.  I'm loving the trend.

Plus, it's just FUN!

I'm trying to make more of an effort with my wardrobe, so I'm tracking my outfits daily--see what this over 40 mom wears throughout the week!  I love seeing what other people wear--great inspiration :)  #over40fashion #womensfashionover40 #over40outfits #womenfashion style over 40

So here we go!  This is what I wore this week:

Women's fashion and style for the over 40 mom can be fun and comfortable!  Come see what I wore this week in very hot Denver, Colorado :)

It has been blazing hot here in Denver and as much as I want to live in jeans, sometimes it's just too dang hot!  So I broke out my baggy denim shorts and this awesome Gap button down linen tunic (their oversized boyfriend shirt in linen).  I can roll down the sleeves if I get chilly on my Target run and roll them back up when I'm out with the kids.

These New Balance sneakers are slide-ons and I wear them more as a comfortable accessory than for doing something active.  Well, let's face it, running the house is a very active job!

I took Kate and her bestie for pedicures and Smashburger for Kate's 11th birthday.  Again: soooo hot. I think it was 101 that day.  This linen dress is a no-brainer.  No bra needed!  Just throw it on and go.

Our house got pretty chilly downstairs since the air was running all day, so I threw on a denim shirt as a jacket to keep my arms warm later in the day.   I love the one I got from Banana Republic last year--it just gets better with time and wear.  Here is a similar denim button down from BR.

I can't believe the shift in my overall feeling after starting this project--what I wore this week!  I absolutely loved it and I feel so much more pulled together.  Putting effort into my day to day outfits just makes me happy!  Women's Fashion and Style Over 40 is easier than you think :)

I had a networking event that night and hotels are notoriously freezing, so I changed into my latest favorite bootcut jeans (with a mid-rise!  They come in low-rise and high-rise), this super comfy lightweight grey sweater, and some old wedge sandals.

Side note: I could live in jeans and t-shirts, so I made a commitment this year that I was not allowed to buy any top that has basic, plain lines.  If it's a t-shirt, that's fine, but it has to have something fun and dressy about it.  It's been very eye opening to see how many times I reach for a basic grey or black top!

For Kate's actual birthday, I opted for my favorite bootcut jeans (again) and this paper thin dressy top.  We went to see The Incredibles 2 and I knew I'd be cold.  I had the sweater on for probably half of the day--air conditioning!!!  And my favorite sandals that I wrote about in this post about simple changes to upgrade my summer wardrobe keep my back from hurting like my flip flops usually do.

ps--that movie was very intense and too scary for kids, in my opinion.  Kate agreed...she said it was "startling" during the scary parts.  Townes can't handle the sensory overload of movie theaters anymore and I was so grateful he didn't come with us!

It was my turn for a pedicure on this day, so I made sure I had on loose jeans (these are so loose and thin and are from Target!), flip flops, and a long sleeve shirt since a cool front came in for the day.  Yay!

I got to take a break from the house and headed to Starbucks to get some blog writing done on Sunday.  Between the dogs, the kids, and Joe, I have a hard to hammering out blog posts.  I need the head space to plan, write, and create.  Feeling pulled together puts my mind in a great place to feel productive and confident in my writing.

These skinny jeans are my absolute favorite from Vici.  I couldn't find the exact pair, but they have plenty of options for jeans here.  (Size up!!)

Can you see how they are a little washed out down the center of my leg line?  That subtle line instantly slims my legs by optical illusion!  Plus, they have a little bit of distressing, but not so much that this over 40 mom feels ridiculous LOL  They hold their shape and the length is perfect for me.

And I popped on another linen tunic (or Gap's oversized boyfriend shirt in linen) because I feel professional and it's so light and airy for another hot day in Denver.

So that does it!  And leave it to me to write almost 800 words about my outfits this week.  It wasn't even a full week since I think I started taking these shots Tuesday or Wednesday.

I really hope it inspired you and shows you that women's fashion and style over the age of 40 is fun, easy, and necessary!  It's a mental health boost :)

I'm going to do this for a month and then see how I feel about it.  It has been so fun!  I've even started putting out my outfits the night before.  What a time saver in the morning.

Do you plan your outfits the night before (or even for the week?)?
