Great Gifts for an 11-Year-Old Girl
Our sweet Kate is turning 11 this week and that means I've been searching for good birthday gifts for pre-teen girls! This roundup is a list of things we bought and other good ideas we considered along the way. Because every 11-year-old girl is potentially so different and multi-passionate, I've broken up the list of gift ideas into the following categories:
- Engineer/Science Wiz,
- Budding Chef, and
- Offbeat/Quirky/Random gifts for preteen girls.
(Check out the gift guide for 12-year-old boys here!)

I know you'll find something on this list! Here we go: gifts for 11-year-old-girls :)
Great Gifts For 11-Year-Old Girls
Sporty or Athletic Girl
AmazonBasics Dumbell Weights
Here we go again with the AmazonBasics line with their Neoprene Dumbells! But check these out--3 sets of weights (2lb, 3lb and 5lb) and a stand for all three and under $30! Perfect for pre-teens and adults looking for a little extra resistance.
This weight set has over 1,600 reviews and sits with a 4.5 rating. This is the perfect gift for an 11-year-old daughter or friend's birthday.
Our soon to be 11-year-old daughter has been asking for a camelback water backpack for months. I've never had one, so choosing one to purchase took some research. I think we found a winner with this Winneco Hydration Backpack for Running, Walking, Hiking, Biking, and more.
It has a solid 4.5 rating and is also "Amazon's Choice" in this category. It holds 50 ounces of water and I can't wait for Kate to use it. If she likes it, I'll likely be buying one for myself--one less thing to carry on a walk!
This is definitely a pricey gift at around $140, but would be worth the investment if your child has shown interest in sewing.
We got it for Kate a few months ago and it has been easy for her to use--she's experimenting and taking classes. I love that it's basic enough for her to use, but also offers higher level abilities as she develops her skill.
The reviews on this Brother CS6000i sewing machine are what pushed me over the edge. There are skilled seamstresses using it, but who also said a beginner could get the hang of it easily (especially with YouTube videos to help!).
Jo-Ann Fabric and Michaels offer beginner and more advanced sewing classes. Or check your local Craigslist for people offering sewing classes--some will even come to your house!
In-Person Kids Art Class
I also saw a store called Young Art that offers kids art classes at our local mall. You can drop off your kids while you shop! They have a lot of other locations.
Barnes and Noble / Amazon Gift Card
A gift card to Barnes and Noble or Amazon in a card with a bookmark or even a fancy candy bar is always a welcome gift.
Clip On Reading Light for Bed
Lightweight and cordless, this rechargeable clip-on reading light can be used basically anywhere. Once charged, it runs for 60 hours! This is perfect for kids and adult readers, alike.
The LuminoLite Rechargeable 3000K Warm 6 LED Book Light is "Amazon's Choice" for clip on reading lights for beds and with nearly 1,000 reviews, she's holding strong with a 4.5 star rating!
I know our preteen bookworm would love this light.
This is a great multitasking tool for readers who can't be bothered to stop reading while eating their cereal or brushing their teeth haha! Readers gotta read ;)
Superior Essentials makes this Bookmark/Weight-Page Holder and the most recent reviewers are raving about the new version that has more weight than the last and gets the job done.
This book weight for around $10 and a $20 gift card to Barnes and Noble would make a great gift for a preteen who loves to read.
Jewelry Making Kit
This highly rated Flying L jewelry making kit comes with everything your preteen girl will need to start creating her own works of art. It comes in four different sets with a different dominant color.
I love all of the tools that are included and the wide variety of beads. This is a great gift for an 11-year-old girl with a budget friendly price tag of $25.
OMG these pink cat headphones for kids are the cutest things! They are perfect for an 11-year-old girl and reviewers said they are great quality and cuter in person.
And you can't beat the price! Adorable, wireless cat headphones MindKoo for $35 would make a great birthday gift for your daughter or her friend's birthday party.
Who doesn't like LEGO? Especially for the science and engineering-minded girl in your life. These LEGO Elves sets are really highly reviewed for pre-teen girls.
One reviewer said:
"Made a great gift for 12 and 14 year old. This set has a lot of usable pieces to make other items."
I love it when kids can use their imagination to create their own masterpieces with a Lego set that they built and enjoyed first!
Fun Cooking Tools
I just created a little kid's kitchen spot right next to our stove so that Kate didn't have to climb on the counters to get a mixing bowl, etc. I ordered these fun bowls and spatulas that are just for her and she absolutely loves them!
The mixing bowls, from Home Gourmet, have a silicone base and a pouring spout that's perfect for scrambled eggs and pancakes (her two favorite foods!). And who doesn't love a silicone spatula? Especially in these bright and happy colors from Win House :)
The #1 best seller in Amazon for kids cook books is this spiral bound book, Cooking Class: 57 Fun Recipes Kids Will Love to Make.
A review that stood out to me (there are nearly 400 and it has a 4.5 rating!) was this one:
"Clear instructions geared towards kids who want to get better in a kitchen. Also comes with fun stickers and labels for them to play with, and emphasizes clean up as well as safety."
Sounds like the perfect gift for a girl with a little bit of kitchen experience, but who's not ready for Top Chef Jr. just yet :)
Most areas have small businesses who offer cooking classes, or you can look online for someone local who does one-on-one classes. We are lucky enough to live close to Uncorked Kitchen that offers adult, family, and kids' classes and camps at their amazing location in Centennial, Colorado (complete with a mountain view!).

Offbeat Quirky Gifts
For the animal-loving 11-year-old in your life, these cool dog socks will make a great gift for. Kids at this age (especially girls) are starting to express themselves more with their clothes and these quirky socks give a little spice to an ordinary outfit.
They have them in the cat version, too! Kate will love these :)
DIY Journaling Kit
Our almost 11-year-old is all about journals, notebooks, sketchbooks, etc. She loves writing her ideas down and sketching ideas. For Christmas last year she got a journaling kit and she was SO EXCITED!
This STMT DIY Journaling Set will take your basic notebook-loving kid to the next level. The ability to personalize it and make it their own with stickers and other unique bells and whistles makes this the gift that keeps giving! All for under $20.
Brightly colored watch
Our daughter has been asking for a watch for a few months. I figured it wasn't a good idea because she and her brother have the Gizmo Pal watch phone through Verizon. I guess she can wear one on each wrist?
For $18, this white Casio watch will be worth the fun of having it to wear on special occasions.
I love the bright white and fun colors they used for the watch face. It's technically a woman's watch, but reviewers said it is petite and some had purchased it for their child and it worked great.
Fruit Infuser Water Bottle
Our 11-year-old daughter has been asking for a fruit water infuser pitcher for ages, but this fruit infuser water bottle is an even better idea! It comes in eight colors, holds 32oz of water, stays cold, and they even include a recipe book. That's a steal for $18 and perfect for a friend's birthday gift.
It has an over 4-star rating with nearly 1,800 reviews!
There you have it! An awesome list of 25 cool gifts for 11-year-old girls.
When all else fails, give cash or a gift card! Everyone loves Amazon, Target, or Starbucks these days--especially a preteen girl :) Good luck shopping!!
