Spring Clean Day 3 | Spring Outfit Inspiration for Women Over 40
Now that we've cleaned out the house and spruced up the decor, it's time to focus on your closet! Spring is a great time to clear out the old and make some breathing room. Instead of going to the extreme of a capsule wardrobe, this spring I decided to do a quick clean out and then create outfits out of the clothes I already have.
In fact, I want to inspire you to do the same! I'm not even going to post links to these pieces so that I don't tempt you. I just want you to get inspired to look at your closet with a fresh eye!
I did this clear out last week and it was not only really fun, but eye opening. I usually just grab the most comfortable (and clean) thing from my closet and call it a day. I can't be bothered to come up with some ensemble.
Putting together outfits in one batch of time really showed me that I have some cute things to wear. I've already been wearing the outfits I put together! Not having to think about what I'm wearing has been so nice and is motivating.
Spring Outfit Ideas for Women Over 40 (Shop Your Closet and Save Money!)
Creating these outfits literally took 10 minutes and now I don't have to think about what I'm going to wear! The best part? These are basic silhouettes so I can change out a top or bottom or dress to change things up. Easy!
White shorts, colorful top, and a black blazer
Who says you can't wear shorts in your forties? My general rule for maximum comfort level is to either show my arms or my legs, but rarely do I show both.
Utilizing a lightweight blazer with rolled sleeves elevates these shorts and sleeveless blouse. Pro tip: go up a size in the shorts so that they're a little slouchy. This makes your legs look thinner :)
Lightweight Dress, Statement Jacket
I've had this black dress for three years from the Merona line at Target. The jersey material just doesn't age! And the length of the dress hits right above the knee, so I can bend over without worrying about flashing anyone LOL
The marine utility jacket is my version of a jean jacket. For whatever reason, I just can't rock a denim jacket. They don't look good on me! And they look so cute on other people. So you could change out this jacket for a jean jacket or casual blazer and look cute and casual.
Skinny Jeans, Low-High T Shirt, Statement Necklace
This is a go-to look for me, but I usually have a light cardigan on, as well. Denver summers are blazing hot in the sun, but really cool in the shade or indoors.
Invest in a pair of skinny jeans that make you feel like a million bucks--add an inexpensive t-shirt, statement jewelry and your favorite sneakers or sandals and you're done!
I absolutely love these jeans from Vici. The wash on them makes my legs look way thinner than they are LOL. Plus, they hold their shape and they have minimal distressing. Just enough for a little personality, but not enough to make it look like I'm trying too hard.
Loose shorts, Tunic, Statement Necklace
Here's my loose, short shorts and a long sleeved top formula again. I would wear this with my white sneakers or my stacked heels for a date night. I absolutely love wearing heels with shorts. It feels sporty and sexy at the same time and it's comfortable!
Dressy T-Shirt, Loose Fit Jeans, Colorful Shoes
Out of all of these spring outfit ideas, this is the one that resonates the most with me. If I could wear jeans and sneakers every day for the rest of my life, I'd be happy. And I can. And I might :)
This dressy t-shirt is from Gap last year and is so soft. It feels and looks so much more expensive than it was! These loose fit Target jeans are lightweight and hang really well. I love my New Balance sneakers--especially in a fun color to punch up what could be a boring outfit!
Of course, you can't go wrong with a statement necklace--which always elevates a t-shirt.
I switched my sneakers for block heels in this shot--and added a lightweight blazer! I love how I can interchange most of these outfit ideas :)
I hope I've inspired you to focus on what you have instead of buying a new wardrobe this spring!
