Hi.

Welcome to our life as we homeschool our kids with a twist!

What Does Unschooling Look Like? Week in the Life #1

We have gotten lots of questions about how we homeschool and I figured maybe a week in the life post series would be the quickest way to peek into our life to see what we've been up to!

Disclaimer: this was not a typical week--the Jurassic Quest was in town and we had a special reptile expert visitor to the house for a class.

Ever wonder what unschoolers do all day?  This week was filled with doctor's appointments, play, and exciting activities. | GettingUnschooled.com | Week in the Life of an Unschooler

Time to play and bake without time constraints is a huge reason we love to unschool.  Kids need space.  These are pictures of kids learning :)

Jurassic Quest came to Denver last week and I was so jazzed for it that I splurged on the VIP tickets.  Turns out, our kids are starting to outgrow this type of thing.  We still had fun (the mechanical dinosaurs were UNREAL), but we didn't need the VIP pass for the unlimited rides and we only needed about an hour and a half before they were ready.

The kids are getting a little too old for this kind of thing, but it was still very impressive: Jurassic Quest came to Denver last week!  | GettingUnschooled.com | Week in the Life of an Unschooler

Learning to ride a bike has been an elusive dream of these kids for years.  We did try when they were younger, but not very hard.  We decided to let someone else take the reigns on teaching them.  (No matter how hard we parents try, it's virtually impossible to hide impatience, frustration, etc. from our voices and the kids pick up on that.)  Bicycle Village in Aurora offers FREE lessons every Sunday morning!  We had a very successful first lesson.

Townes is able to ride, but has some mental hurdles he's working through.  He earned the medal because he rode with pedals, but we still need some work on getting over the scary thought of falling.  About five minutes into Kate's lesson, she was riding like she'd always known how to do it!

I highly recommend getting someone else to teach your kids :)

Townes has joined a chess club/class and they have their first tournament this weekend.  He will get creamed for sure--he's only been to two classes.  But we're making sure he prepares the best way he can before Saturday!

I love having the time and emotional bandwidth for the kids to do activities.  When they were in school, it took all of their energy and motivation for extracurricular activities away.  They were wiped, we were stressed, and the entire family was cranky.

Life is so much more peaceful these days!

I love seeing how other people homeschool or unschool--check out this Week in the Life of an Unschooler! | Getting Unschooled is a family lifestyle blog about unschooling, over 40 style, and non-toxic beauty!  Thanks for pinning :)

Cheers!
