Hi.

Welcome to our life as we homeschool our kids with a twist!

Life Lately: Homeschooling, Jury Duty, and Vertigo

Life Lately: Homeschooling, Jury Duty, and Vertigo

It's time for another life update around these parts.  Nothing major: jury duty, vertigo treatment, and homeschooling.  HAHAHA!  Yep, things have been anything but boring around here.

Let's start with jury duty.  I groaned when I got my summons (who doesn't?) and thought I'd be there for half a day before being shuffled out the door with the rest of the poor schmucks who were selected.  Buutt...it didn't go that way.  I got selected for a 3-day criminal trial.  It was a total PITA to get doctor's appointments rescheduled and various other life appointments managed (even with my mother-in-law visiting from TX!).  Even with all of that, it was such a cool experience!  I loved every minute of it and learned so much about our justice system.

My co-jurors were attentive, thorough, and just and I love how seriously we all took the case.  I'm actually looking forward to the next time I get summoned LOL

I rarely share with people that I suffer from vertigo because 1. I'm private and 2. I've never wanted anyone to think I was incapable of handling a photography shoot.  I missed one day of work when I was with Bella Baby Photography (my second to last day on the schedule!) and that was because I had spent five hours painting our master bedroom and then slept in the room with the door closed the entire night.  Yep.  Cue the vertigo/migraine.  I couldn't even lift my head!

I had my first episode about four years ago (luckily, I have family members who have it, too, so I didn't think I had a brain tumor!).  What once was a rare occurrence has turned into a daily battle.  I'll write another post about it and detail everything I've tried in an effort to get it under control.  Maybe it will help others who are out there on the same journey.

Saving the BIGGEST update for last: Homeschool.  Or, I should say: Unschool.  Yep, we are those people now.  It's a long, long story that explains how we ended up here.  For now I'll just say that we are all beyond excited to start this new journey!!

Once we started researching homeschooling and stumbled across the Unschooling community, we were hooked.  Like we are in 110%!!!  Kate's last day of school is this Thursday and we are all buzzing with energy to get this show on the road!

We've had a mixed bag of reactions, but mostly support (and even a "I can't believe you waited this long!").  It's probably not for everyone, but we are confident we are on the right track.  Wish us luck!

As for my photography business, I've been mulling it over for some time.  I debated letting it go for now, but in the end I realized that I would miss it and I will be better for my kids and husband if I have this little piece for myself.  That said, I will have a lot less time and will be only working part-time going forward.  And we'll see how it goes!  I have the luxury of having the choice to work or not and I don't take that lightly.  I am so grateful :)

More on unschooling and maybe a post on my struggle with vertigo in the near future.

Thanks for reading!

Cheers!
